La Cañada Flintridge and its permit office
La Cañada Flintridge became a city on December 8, 1976, joining the communities of La Cañada and Flintridge. About 20,600 people (2020 census) live on its 8.64 square miles, mostly in single-family homes, with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the east side, Descanso Gardens in town, and the Foothill Freeway (I-210) and Angeles Crest Highway running through. It has its own Building & Safety, separate from Pasadena and from LA County.

The fire zone and a remodel
Being in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone doesn't change how a kitchen or bathroom is built inside. It matters where a remodel touches the outside of the house:
- Replacement windows, which the City handles with its own window and door submittal checklist
- New exhaust outlets for a range hood or bath fan through a wall or roof
- A bump-out or addition to enlarge a kitchen or primary bath
- Skylights over a bath or kitchen
Planning those exterior pieces first, with the City, keeps the interior work on schedule. The 2009 Station Fire threatened the area, and the fire designation covers the whole city.

Typical projects in La Cañada Flintridge
Single-family houses on larger lots mean kitchens that open to a family room and primary baths with room to grow. See open-concept kitchens, primary bathroom remodels and the main kitchen remodel page. Published price ranges are on the kitchen remodel cost page, and the permit guide compares this office with its neighbors.
